All England Badminton Open Details

Founded in 1989, this prestigious competition is now more than a century old with a golden history in the badminton calendar. It was hosted at Wembley Arena from 1954 but since 1994 till today it is hosted in Birmingham. It is to be expected that in its history, the most number of champions were English, but if you only consider the Open Era in 1979, China would be the most successful country in this competition.

Most successful badminton players

Considering only the open era, Lin Dan is the most successful player in the Men’s Singles category with an astonishing six titles: 2004, 2006–2007, 2009, 2012, 2016. He is followed by Morten Frost, Hariyanto Arbi, Poul-Erik Høyer Larsen and Lee Chong Wei with two titles, with the latter and Lin Dan are the only ones who managed to defend the title. In the Women’s Singles Susi Susanti tops the list with 4 wins while Ye Zhaoying (1997-1999) and Xie Xingfang (2005–2007) are in this competition’s history after winning the most consecutive victories.
